What? That person who always said she couldn’t draw is actually learning?

Apparently, all it took was proper motivation. My grandson.

You see, I had this idea for a book, but it needed drawings – and so I decided to learn. Why not, right? Only, the first drawings were just okay. They weren’t bad, but certainly were not what I wanted for this book. So I kept working – I discovered that my pencil sketches were pretty good, my skill in coloring them correctly was abysmal.

I had a few choices: I could hire an illustrator, I could work even harder to “master” the color, or I could scan the sketches and color them on the computer using Photoshop.

I chose Photoshop, because I have used it for many years in other work. That comfort and skill made Photoshop the logical choice. My drawing skills are still improving, and so far I’m happy with the results.

The challenge now is really telling the story and limiting the number of animals I include – there are so many to share, and I always seem to find more.
